Before You Apply

  1. Explore available housing options and identify your preferred community and room type.

  2. Review the fees and meal plan requirements for the community where you would like to live. 

  3. Review the Important Dates and Deadlines. 

PLEASE NOTE:

  • Returning residents are students who are currently living on campus.
  • Available communities for Returning residents are Manzanita Square (MSQ), University Park North (UPN), and University Park South (UPS).

Steps to Apply

APPLY, SIGN & PAY

  1. Log into the Housing Portal using your SF State Student ID number and password and click on the apply link to start your application.

  2. After completing the application, sign the License Agreement and pay the initial payment. Information about the initial payment can be found on the fee schedule. 

Please Note: Your housing application will not be complete until you have signed the license agreement and submitted the initial payment. 

SELECT YOUR ROOMMATE

(UPN & UPS communities only)

Once the roommate selection process opens, returning residents who applied for UPN & UPS will be allowed to select their roommate. Click the 'Important Dates & Deadlines' button for the Roommate Selection Process start/end date. 

Please Note: Roommates will be assigned for Residents who apply for MSQ or those who apply after the Roommate Selection Process ends.  

RECEIVE YOUR ROOM SELECTION TIMESLOT

(UPN & UPS communities only)

Returning residents who apply to the UPN or UPS communities will receive a room selection timeslot to select their room.

Click the 'Important Dates & Deadlines' button to see when the room selection timeslots will be available on the Housing Portal.

(UPN & UPS communities only)

Log into the Housing Portal at your assigned time to select your room. Room availability is first-come, first-serve.

Click the 'Important Dates & Deadlines' button to see the Room Selection Process start/end date.

March 31 | Housing application deadline for MSQ residents who want to stay in the MSQ community. Chances of staying in your same bedspace is likely but not guaranteed.

Roommate & Room Selection Process

The Roommate & Room Selection Process is closed for the 2023-24 housing application. Any returning resident who applies for housing after April 21, 2023 will be assigned a roommate and room based on the preference information provided at the time of application.

Eligibility 

All applicants will need to:

  • Be a current resident for spring 2023 and have a university account that is in good financial standing.
  • Complete a 2023-2024 housing application, sign the License Agreement and pay the initial payment.

Communities Available for Roommate & Room Selection 

UPN & UPS

Roommate Group Size

Roommate groups can consist of 2, 3, or 5 people total. Below are the recommended group sizes for each unit layout:

  • 1 bedroom | 2 people
  • 2 bedrooms | 2 or 3 people
  • 3 bedrooms | 2, 3 or 5 people

Roommate Selection Steps

STEP ① | Create Your Roommate Profile (All Members of the Roommate Group)

  1. Log into the Housing Portal and click the ‘Select My Roommate’ button.
  2. Click the ‘Continue’ button to confirm the 2023-2024 Housing term.
  3. Click the ‘Continue’ button on the roommate selection ‘Welcome’ page to move to the ‘Roommate Matching Profile’ page.
  4. Answer or update the questions about your likes/dislikes and living habits. Click ‘Save & Continue’.
  5. If you are the leader for your group, move to step 2. All other group members move to step 3.

REMINDER | Remember to check the box that allows other students to see your profile and select you as a roommate.

STEP ② | Create A Roommate Group (Group Leader Only)

Discuss and decide upon a group leader and unique group name with the other member(s) of your group. Group leader begin will continue with step 2. Remaining group members will skip this step and move to step 3.

  1. Click the ‘Create a Group’ link.
  2. Enter a group name, check the checkbox, and click ‘Save Group’.
  3. Click the ‘Search for Roommate by SF State ID’.
  4. Enter one of your preferred roommate’s SF State ID and click ‘Search’.
  5. When your roommate’s information is displayed, click the button to send your roommate an invitation to join the roommate group.
  6. Repeat step C-E for your remaining roommates until your roommate group is complete.

STEP ③ | Accept Your Roommate Invitation (Remaining Members of the Roommate Group)

  1. Once your group leader has added you to your roommate group, an invitation will be sent to your email to your SF State email account.
  2. Log into the Housing Portal and click the button ‘Accept My Roommate Invitation’.
  3. On the ‘Roommate Groups’ page, click the ‘Accept’ or ‘Decline’ button.

STEP ④ | Proceed to the Room Selection Process When It Becomes Available on April 17 – 21, 2023 (All Members of the Roommate Group)

  1. Log into the Housing Portal and click the ‘Select My Roommate’ button.
  2. Click the ‘Continue’ button to confirm the 2023-2024 Housing term.
  3. Click the ‘Continue’ button on the roommate selection ‘Welcome’ page to move to the ‘Roommate Matching Profile’ page.
  4. Answer or update the questions about your likes/dislikes and living habits. Click ‘Save & Continue’.

REMINDER | Remember to check the box that allows other students to see your profile and select you as a roommate.

STEP ② | Search for a Roommate

  1. Click on the 'Search for Roommate by Profile*' and select the profile criteria that you want to search.
  2. Check the 'Exclude Results that Cannot be Added' box and click ‘Search’.
  3. Optional: Click the ‘View Profile’ button for any student you’d like to learn more about.
  4. Optional: Send the student a message by clicking the ‘Send Message’ button.
  5. Once you have decided on who you want to room with, click the button to send an invitation to the person you want to be roommates with. The person you selected will be sent an email to accept or deny your roommate request.

* You can also click the 'Suggest a Roommate' link to have the system find profiles that are similar to yours.

STEP ③ | Proceed to the Room Selection Process When it Becomes Available on April 17 – 21, 2023

Room Selection Steps

All applicants will be assigned a timeslot to make their room selection on the Housing Portal. An email will be sent to your SF State email reminding you to log into the Housing Portal to view your assigned timeslot. 

INDIVIDUALS | If you are not part of a roommate group, you will select a room only for yourself.

ROOMMAGE GROUPS | If you are part of a roommate group, the group leader will select the rooms for each roommate and assign beds.

IMPORTANT 

  • Your timeslot does not guarantee a space in housing. Room type and building availability is on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Once your timeslot becomes available, you will have until 5 p.m. PDT on Friday, April 21, 2023 to make your selection(s).

ROOM SELECTION STEPS

  1. During your assigned timeslot, log into the Housing Portal and click the ‘Make My Room Selection’ button.
  2. Click the ‘Continue’ button to confirm the 2023-2024 Housing term.
  3. On the ‘Room Selection’ page, filter the results according to your preferred room type as desired.
  4. Click the ‘Select’ button for your preferred building and room type from the available options to add the selection to your shopping cart. Make room selections for the additional members of your roommate group (if applicable).
  5. On the ‘Bedspace Assignments’ page, click the dropdown to assign a bed to yourself and each member or your roommate group (if applicable). Click ‘Assign Bed(s)’ to continue.
  6. Review the room and bedspace assignments to confirm they are accurate. Click the ‘Reserve Bedspace(s)’ button the finalize your reservation.

IMPORTANT | Once you add your first room type to your shopping cart, you will have 10 minutes to checkout. If you do not check out within 10 minutes, the space you selected will be removed from your shopping cart and made available to other students. The timer is displayed on the top menu bar next to the shopping cart icon.
