Move-in FAQs

Can I Move in early, late or a different day?

To ensure health and safety protocols, all students are required to move in during their scheduled move-in appointment day/time only. View the ‘Move-in Process’ page for more details. 

Will move-in assistance be offered?

To help you move your belongings, moving bins will be available for checkout at all communities except for University South. View the ‘Move-in Process’ page for more details.

Will face coverings be required for the check-in process?

Yes, face coverings are required during the entire move-in process. View the Move-in Day Health & Safety Requirements page and the Housing COVID-19 page for more information.

Can I show an at home COVID-19 test when I check in?

Yes, you can show an at home test that was taken within the past 72 hours of check-in.

What is the size of the vehicle for move-in day?

Due to a max clearance of 6’8”, large trucks, trailers, or recreational vehicles cannot be accommodated.

How do I get to campus, and where can I park?

Please see the 'Directions, Maps, & Parking' page for more information. Please note:  Parking in the Stonestown Galleria Mall is prohibited and all vehicles will be towed.

What if I’m running late and I miss my move in time?

If you arrive later than your scheduled time, you may need to wait until move-in staff can accommodate you. Wait time could range from 6-8 hours.  Please contact the housing office before 5pm by email at housing@sfsu.edu or call us at (415)338-1067 if you are running late. Be sure to include your SF State ID # in the email.

What if I don’t have my SF State ID card?

Your SF State ID card is needed for check-in on Move-in Day. If you have not yet received your SF State ID, you can use a government-issued ID to check-in, but you should request your ID as soon as possible. To request your SF State ID and for pick-up location information, visit onecard.sfsu.edu.

Will the housing office be opened on move-in day?

Yes, the hours during Move-in are day are from 9 AM to 5 PM.

How many people can I bring with me on Move-in Day?

Due to safety reasons, only 1 guest per resident may help with move-in. Guests will need to pass a health assessment at check-in.

Does the person helping me move-in have to be vaccinated?

Vaccinations will not be required for those providing assistance, however, your guest will need to  be symptom free and will pass a health screening at check-in.

How many cars will be allowed on move-in day?

Due to space limitations, only one car will be allowed per resident.

Will my meal plan be active on Move-in day?

Meal plans included in the License Agreement will be activated at the time of check-in.

I’ve purchased a parking space, how do I pick up my pass?

Parking passes will be included in your Move-in Packet. 

I have a confirmation that I have a parking space, when can I start parking in the space?

You can start using your parking space after you are done unloading.

How do I set up my Internet?

Can I pay for housing at Move-in?
Yes, you can pay by check or certified funds at the Student Housing Office, however, we strongly encourage you to utilize the online payment option through your student center. If you pay by credit card (Discover card not accepted) there will be a 2.65% fee. Payment by eCheck is free.
