Move-in FAQs

Can I Move in early, late or a different day?

To ensure the health and safety of the residential community, all students are required to move in during their scheduled move-in appointment day/time only. View the ‘Move-in Process’ page for more details. 

Will move-in assistance be offered?

To help you move your belongings, moving bins will be available at all communities except for University Park South. We also recommend that you bring your own handtruck or dolly. 

Will face coverings be required at Move-in?

Yes, face coverings are required during the entire move-in process. View the Move-in Day 'Health & Safety Requirements' page for more information.

What is the size of the vehicle for move-in day?

Due to a max clearance of 6’8”, large trucks, trailers, or recreational vehicles cannot be accommodated.

How do I get to campus, and where can I park?

Please see the 'Directions, Maps, & Parking' page for more information. Please note:  Parking in the Stonestown Galleria Mall is prohibited and all vehicles will be towed.

What if I’m running late and I miss my move in time?

If you arrive later than your scheduled time, you may need to wait until move-in staff can accommodate you. Wait time could range from 6-8 hours.  Please contact the housing office before 5pm by email at housing@sfsu.edu or call us at (415)338-1067 if you are running late. Be sure to include your name and SF State ID # in the email.

What if I don’t have my SF State ID card?

Your SF State ID card is needed for check-in on Move-in Day. If you have not yet received your SF State ID, you can use a government-issued ID to check-in, but you should request your ID as soon as possible. To request your SF State ID and for pick-up location information, visit onecard.sfsu.edu.

Will the Housing Office be opened on Move-in Day?

Yes, Housing Office will be open from 9 AM to 5 PM.

How many people can I bring with me on Move-in Day?

Due to health and safety reasons, only 2 guests per resident may help with move-in. Guests will need to pass a health assessment at check-in.

Does the person helping me move-in have to be vaccinated?

Vaccinations are not required for those providing assistance, however, your guest will need to be symptom free and pass a health screening at check-in.

How many cars will be allowed on move-in day?

To help minimize traffic congestion, only 1 vehicle will be allowed to the unloading area. Additional vehicles will be re-routed to the long term parking area in Lot 20. We recommend that you do not bring multiple cars, however, as long term parking is limited.

Will my meal plan be active on Move-in Day?

Meal plans included in the License Agreement will be activated at the time of check-in.

I purchased a parking permit, when can I start parking in my space?

Residents with an assigned space in the Village will need to park in Lot 20 until during Move-in weekend. They can park in their assigned space after 9pm on August 14th. Residents with an assigned space in University Park South and North can park in their assigned space as soon as they are finished unloading their vehicle.

Can I pay for housing at Move-in?
Yes, you can pay by check or certified funds at the Student Housing Office, however, we strongly encourage you to utilize the online payment option through your student center. If you pay by credit card (Discover card not accepted) there will be a 2.65% fee. Payment by eCheck is free.
