Are COVID-19 vaccines required to live on campus?

In order to be able to provide the safest possible congregate housing experience, SF State Housing will be requiring that ALL potential residents are vaccinated prior to the start of the fall 2021 semester. Therefore, all students who have received an SF State Housing reservation for the 2021-2022 academic year must upload proof of COVID-19 vaccination (either one or both doses) when completing the Move-in Confirmation form.

Do I need to be fully vaccinated at the time of move-in?

Yes, residents need to be fully vaccinated at the time of move-in. Residents understands and agrees that COVID-19 immunization is required by the University as a condition of occupancy, prior to occupying the licensed premises, unless the University has granted Licensee an exemption for medical or religious reasons.   

What vaccines are accepted on campus?

Any COVID-19 vaccine approved by the World Health Organization are accepted.

Will I be able to get the vaccine on campus?

At this time, vaccines are not available on campus. Links to information about current vaccine locations both locally and elsewhere may be found on the vaccine page of our Campus Plan website - SF State Campus Plan - Vaccinations.

What are the types of medical reasons do I need for a COVID-19 vaccine exemption?

This process is still in review, we recommend if you feel you have a medical exemption to upload any proof you have right now, as the University will review at the appropriate time.

Will we be required to do more testing after we are vaccinated?

Depending on the conditions of the pandemic, students living in on-campus housing may be required to participate in COVID-19 testing. Upon acceptance of the housing license agreement, residents have agreed to comply with any COVID-19 testing protocols that may be required by the University.

If I don’t get vaccinated can I still participate in housing activities still?

Are mask/face coverings still required after move-in?

Resident are not required to wear a face covering when they are in the same household. However, residents must wear a face covering at all times while indoors in public areas in the housing community. Face coverings are no longer required outdoors on campus.  

Is social distancing still enforced?

In alignment with state and local health and CAL/OSHA guidance, physical distancing requirements have been lifted.

What are my responsibilities to follow COVID-19 safety restrictions on campus?

Residents are expected to follow all COVID-19 health and safety protocols and to be engaged daily with the University’s health declaration process using the San Francisco State University Mobile Device app to gain access to university buildings outside of their residential community.

I was reserved for a double/triple, but I feel safer if I don’t get assigned a roommate, is that possible?

At the time of the license, the resident acknowledged that requesting a bed within a double-occupancy/space unit will result in roommates and/or apartment-mates unless otherwise prohibited by the local public health authority.

Can I have my vaccinated friends and family stay with me overnight?

Overnight guests are prohibited in the residence halls or apartments until communicated otherwise by University Housing representative. Violations of this regulation may be considered a serious material breach of the license.

What happens if I test positive for COVID-19?

What if I violate COVID-19 policies?

If you violate COVID-19 policies from the License Agreement you will be sent through the Residential Life Conduct Process.

Do we need to quarantine before or after we move-in?

Fully-vaccinated students do not need to quarantine unless they are experiencing symptoms related to COVID-19.  Those approved for medical or religious exemptions from vaccination will be required to self-quarantine in their assigned bedroom for a period determined by the Department of Public Health.

Will I be tested for COVID-19 on Move-in Day?

Upon arrival, a COVID-19 test may be required and administered by a state licensed third party during the move-in process. Additional subsequent COVID-19 test(s) may be required as well.

What are the recommended items I should bring to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19?

The following supplies should be accessible to the resident at all times:

  1. Hand sanitizer (at least 70% alcohol base)
  2. Sanitizing wipes/sprays
  3. Hand Soap
  4. Appropriate face coverings, as defined by state and local health authorities, and the University
  5. A thermometer
  6. Cleaning supplies, such as gloves, bleach
